Paris Olympics 2024
As the eagerly awaited Paris 2024 Olympics draw near, Indian athletes have a notable advantage: a specially curated menu of Indian cuisine, providing them with the familiar flavors of home throughout the event.
The Indian Express has revealed the menu for Indian athletes competing at the Paris 2024 Olympics. The report states, "In a first, the Athletes' Village dining halls will offer specially curated dishes including steamed Basmati rice, dal, roti, aloo-gobi, mildly spiced Indian-style chicken curry, and an assortment of South Asian broths."
The Chef de Mission, Shiva Keshavan, disclosed that the menu for the Indian athletes had been provided to the organizers in Paris during the meeting with the Indian Olympic Association. This initiative is intended to give the athletes a sense of home while they compete against the finest from various nations, vying for the top honors and bringing glory to their countries.
Keshavan was quoted as saying, "Many of our suggestions for incorporating Indian dishes into the modified menu were accepted. Each dish was approved by a nutritionist."
"Food often presents a significant challenge for our athletes. Naturally, the Olympics offer a chance to sample global cuisines in the main dining hall. However, we've urged the organizers to expand the South Asian menu options for our athletes. Being away from home is already a stretch beyond their comfort zones; their meals shouldn't be an unexpected hurdle," Keshavan stated.
It is suggested that Indian athletes traditionally had to settle for East and West Asian cuisines, which they didn't fuss about, but these did not meet their nutritional needs.
The report further emphasized that the IOA will establish a streamlined communication channel to address and protest issues as necessary. Additionally, the athletes are expected to adhere to strict social media protocols.
Keshavan stated, "Clear guidelines will be established regarding acceptable social media posts. While people are curious about the experiences within the Village, we will inform participants about confidential matters they are privy to but must refrain from posting."
